Barricades stop people; stanchions direct them
That is the whole distinction. A stanchion suggests a route and a barricade holds a line, and only one of the two is built to be leaned on by a crowd. Anything outdoors, anything with a perimeter, and anything where the line has to stand without staff in it is barricade work.
Panels are 7ft, and they interlock
Divide the length of your run by seven and round up: a 70ft perimeter is ten panels, a stage front twice the width of the stage is usually six to eight. Leaving a gate in the run means one panel fewer on the order and one person more on the rota. Because panels interlock, a run behaves as one structure — moving the middle of it means opening an end.
Order the ballast with the panels
A barricade is a flat surface in the wind and a skirted panel with a sponsor print on it is a sail. One 25lb sandbag per exposed leg is the working rule — fewer along a building, more across open ground. Sandbags are the cheapest line on the order and the one most often left off it, and a second truck for four more bags costs more than the bags.
Placement is part of delivery
Steel is heavy. Send the site plan or describe the run in the notes and the panels are staged along the line they will form instead of stacked at the gate. It costs nothing and it is the difference between a crew building a perimeter and a crew carrying one.
